Membership Categories and Dues

Academic Members: $75
     Academic members are active members of the faculty of colleges, schools or departments of journalism, or of institutions offering in-service training to journalists.

Associate Members: $75
     Associate members are current or former members of NCEW who no longer are working in the opinion area, or are graduates of the Minority Writers Seminar. Associate members may participate in all NCEW activities, chair and serve on committees, and vote for candidates for NCEW offices. Associate members may not hold office themselves.

Broadcast Members: $75
     Broadcast members are active editorial writers or commentators who, as a regular part of thier duties, prepare institutional opinion or editorial commentary, determine editorial policy, or otherwise play an active role in editorial operations for broacast television or radio stations. 

Columnist Members: $75
   Columnists are professional writers of commentary who are represented by a syndicate or are regular contributors to print publications or online sites.

Online Journalist: $75
     Online Journalist members are active writers or commentators who, as a regular part of thier duties, prepare institutional opinion or editorial commentary, determine editorial policy, or otherwise play an active role in editorial operations for websites and other online outlets.

Print Members: $75
     Print members are active editorial writers or columnists who, as a regular part of thier duties, prepare institutional opinion or editorial commentary, determine editorial policy, or otherwise play an active role in editorial operations for newspapers, magazines and other media publications.

Retired Members: $45
     Retired members are NCEW members who have retired from their professional positions and who are not engaged in other vocations.

Student Members: $25
     Student membership is available to any full-time student of recognized colleges, schools, or departments of journalism who take courses in editorial writing and related areas. Other full-time university students are eligible if they participate in the editorial functions of student publications or broadcast operations, or if they otherwise demonstrate an interest in opinion writing. Students shall be non-voting members of the conference and may not hold elective office.
